Toppings of your choice (sesame seeds, poppy seeds, etc.)
Homemade Bagel
In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups warm water, 1 tablespoon active dry yeast, and 2 tablespoons granulated sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
Add 4 cups all-purpose flour and 1 1/2 teaspoons salt to the bowl. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal portions.
Shape each portion into a ball, then use your thumb to poke a hole through the center. Gently stretch the hole to form a bagel shape.
Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
Boil the bagels for 1-2 minutes per side, then remove and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Beat 1 egg and brush it over the tops of the bagels.
Sprinkle toppings of your choice (such as sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or everything bagel seasoning) over the egg wash.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Cool on a wire rack before serving.
